SAE Engineering Standards Numbering Paradigm

The SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) has developed a numbering paradigm for its Aerospace Standards, Recommended Practices, Aerospace Resources Documents, and Information Reports. This numbering paradigm includes alpha and numeric digits with the alpha digits which generally identifies the specific category/information covered by the document.

Here is the list of the acronyms and their root meaning:
AIR      Aerospace Information Report
AMS    Aerospace Material Specification
ARD    Aerospace Resource Document
ARP     Aerospace Recommended Practice
AS       Aerospace Standard
NC      Noncurrent (formerly Inactive for New Design)
MA      Metric Aerospace Standard
MAP    Metric Aerospace Recommended Practice
RA       Reaffirmed
RR       Reaffirmed – Currently Being Revised
